Cocobolo Serving Board w/ Purple Heart, Padauk, and Canary Wood

This one of a kind, hand-made serving tray was commissioned by a customer, and it’s been an absolute pleasure to work on. While the initial discussions for this design had focused on alternative (and more mainstream/common) wood species, but through out discussions we decided to move forward with Cocobolo - a first for this carpenter.

I think the biggest take away from this project was the fact that Cocobolo can look incredibly differently after a fresh surfacing than when you buy it off the shelf, let alone the differences you can get from board to board. With this project, I absolutely loved how the reds and yellows and oranges all came through the cocobolo to compliment the other woods in the design. The herringbone pattern was definitely not the easiest to accomplish, but I’m incredibly happy with how this turned out.
